Website Case Study
Subject : Domain Hijack Case Study Case: Turnersindia had registered their domain name with a small-time vendor. Surprisingly, the rates offered by this small-time vendor was comparable to CHL prices. The client, as is very common, had little knowledge in intricacies of domain registration process. After a period of time, the client started having issues with the service and decided to transfer the domain to a better service provider.
Solution: The client came to Crystal Hues for assistance. On basic research, we found out, to their dismay, that the small-time vendor had registered the domain in his own name. When the vendor was contacted to hand over the domain, instead of complying with request made by the client and CHL, sabotaged the website and kept misleading the client as to the domain transfer process.
CHL held discussions with the vendor and after much persuasion were able to obtain the domain name from the vendor. The vendor had also sabotaged the website and inserted viruses which had to be cleaned and the website reconstructed again.
Inference: Client should be educated on the hazards of getting domain registered with small-vendors. Though they might be offering cheaper service they are not reliable and the client runs the risk of losing their website to an unscrupulous vendors. The client has to understand that a website is not like their brochure. It is their identity and their office on the internet and there is requirement for the website to be maintained on the internet for many years which only a limited company like CHL can guarantee.
