Summary: Addressing the gathering at CITLoB’s annual conference - SAMVĀD 2022, its National President and Crystal Hues founder, Sudheen M urged the key industry stakeholders and the international language industry associations to come together to create a sustainable business environment ripe with opportunities through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and adoption of best practices.

30 September 2022, New Delhi: Recently elected national President of Confederation of Interpreting, Translation and Localisation Businesses (CITLoB) and Crystal Hues Limited (CHL) founder Sudheen M addressed the CITLoB annual conference - SAMVĀD 2022 urging stakeholders of the language industry and the international language industry associations to come together to facilitate an environment of business sustainability and growth through knowledge, collaboration, resource sharing and adoption of best practices.

Themed around ‘future-proofing language business’, the conference offered huge learning and networking opportunities to grow language careers and businesses. The relevance of every session underscored the theme given the volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world that language businesses operate in today.

Sudheen M shed the light on SAMVĀD becoming a marquee event in South Asia for professionals connected with the language services and technology industry, with participants from Language Service Providers (LSP), language technology developers, translators, language professionals, and students aspiring to build a career in the language industry.

He expressed happiness at seeing an interesting line-up of sessions covering diverse subjects, global luminaries of the language industry as speakers, topped with a great audience from diverse areas including language professionals and experts from academics, research, language technology, localization, translation, and interpreting.

Highlighting the objectives of the association, Sudheen called for everyone to focus on creating an ecosystem that facilitates the members to share knowledge, adopt best practices, and collaborate meaningfully. He stressed that the objectives should also align with the larger objectives like providing support to job seekers, engaging with policymakers to help them understand the industry's perspectives, and contributing to the overall development of the industry which will result in the economic growth of the country.

Projecting on the future of the language industry, CITLoB’s national president remarked the industry is on the cusp of explosive growth with new and fast emerging possibilities. The new segments of customers will need content in their local language, which is going to drive growth, especially in the voice and video content segment. Continuing with his address, Sudheen highlighted how the language industry serves every sector of the economy and consists of thousands of micro and small enterprises in India and tens of thousands of diverse professionals in terms of ownership, domain expertise, and language proficiencies. As per him, the language industry (from India's perspective) is vital to the provision of language access to the next 1 billion people.

Sudheen concluded his speech by extending his appreciation to the international industry associations GALA, ATC, EUATC, Women in Localization, Elia, and media partners Slator and Multilingual and community partner LocLunch for their kind cooperation.

SAMVĀD is an annual conference organized by CITLoB to bring all language industry stakeholders on one platform. SAMVĀD 2022 also included session on Natural Language Translation Mission - one of the key Missions of the Government of India led by FICCI-ILIA.
